Go Ahead. Kill Yourself.

This week's edition of the Eye contains a brilliant piece about committing Facebook Suicide (something that I did ages ago). Penned by Chandler Levack, it contains some absolutely poignant gems:

"...logging on makes me break into a cold sweat, as if I could never measure up to the persona I’ve created."

"I came to realize that I couldn’t see the point of interacting with people in real life anymore, because I already knew everything about them. Better yet, it was what they wanted me to know... My Facebook profile was cooler than me anyway."

And finally giving insight into why she thinks people adore FB:

"Facebook offers the promise of fulfilling friendship, without the risk. You are in touch without ever having to be. You are interacting with thousands alone."

But with resolve, the author intends to leave her virtual life behind, and does, opting for a life:

"with real conversation(s) and friendship and no more unflattering pictures. One where people use grammar accurately and aren’t always bragging about making soup from scratch all the time." (sound familiar?)

I propose you jump ship as well.

Let the revolution begin.
